Combine Breast Augmentation and Breast Lift: The Best of Both Worlds!7 min read

Exploring the breast rejuvenation universe excites all potential patients with their eyes set on a “bigger prize” (pun intended!).

That is, until the moment of choice has arrived.

With such a variety of procedures ready to perfect your bust line, feeling like a courageous astronaut lost in the vast darkness of space is inevitable.

Fortunately, we’re here to make sense of this breast rejuvenation maze! By the end of today’s article, you’ll be one step closer to adding the oomph! factor to your cleavage, either through a breast augmentation or a breast lift — or both!

What is the Difference Between a Breast Augmentation and a Breast Lift?

What is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures for women!

Often called a “boob job,” this procedure adds volume to your cleavage by making your breasts larger, firmer, and fuller. Cosmetic surgeons achieve their patients’ goals either through breast implants — made of saline or silicone — or by transferring fatty tissue to the breasts.

The actual procedure takes 1-2 hours per area. After administering general anesthesia or IV sedation, your surgeon inserts the breast implants under your muscle through an incision. After the procedure, you’ll need someone to drive you home and care for you during the first few days of recovery.

What is a Breast Lift?

In contrast, a breast lift, or mastopexy, lifts and reshapes drooping breasts for increased firmness after breastfeeding, pregnancy, or weight loss.

The breast lift procedure can take anywhere between 1-2 hours per area. Your plastic surgeon will reshape your chest and remove excess skin, after which they will sew the incision with sutures. The result — a shapely, more symmetrical bust line!

How Does a Combined Breast Augmentation and Lift Work?

What if you want both more volume and less sagging? Neither procedure does both, so how does that work?

Fortunately, expert plastic surgeons integrate breast augmentation and breast lift into one procedure!

Undergoing the two procedures together allows you to achieve both results at once! A combined breast augmentation and lift utilizes techniques from both procedures to:

  • Increase your cup size
  • Reposition your nipples
  • Perk up sagging breasts
  • Remove excess skin

Who said you can’t have the best of both worlds?

During your initial consultation, your plastic surgeon will advise you on whether or not you should undergo either procedure or both. More often than not, plastic surgeons support combining augmentation and lift for a complete breast makeover!

What are the Benefits of Breast Augmentation and Lift?

If you’re thinking about a bit of a tune-up to help your breasts look their absolute best, you might want to consider going for both procedures!

Let’s break down the perks so you can see why this approach could be a total game-changer:

  • If you’re looking for a specific aesthetic, pairing the two together is often the only way to achieve it. You won’t feel that your breasts look better if they are larger but still sagging.

  • You’ll save time and money by combining breast augmentation and lift. Instead of paying for two separate procedures, you can get both done at once, preventing you from experiencing two separate recoveries!

  • Combining breast augmentation and lift allows you to discuss your whole breast aesthetic during your consultation. Instead of sticking to how you can lift your breasts or make them larger, you can simultaneously talk about both and more!

  • You can correct many issues, ranging from shape, size, nipple size and position. This means that you can correct your breast aesthetic issues in one fell swoop!

How to Prepare for Your Breast Augmentation and Lift

Once you’ve penciled in a calendar date, it’s time to prepare for your breast augmentation and lift!

  • Make sure you stay healthy before your surgery. If you’re sick, it’s best to call and reschedule your surgery. Being sick going into surgery can cause unnecessary complications or slow your healing process.
  • Avoid smoking and nicotine products for at least one month before your surgery. Nicotine isn’t helpful when it comes to healing your body, and it stays in your system for longer than you’d expect.
  • Relax. Maybe one of the nicest things about preparing for surgery is that you can purposely set aside time to relax!
  • Certain products and medications may interfere with your surgery and healing process, such as:

    • Anti-inflammatories
    • Aspirin
    • Birth control
    • Estrogen supplements
    • Garlic supplements
    • Green tea and green tea extracts
    • Ibuprofen
    • St. John’s Wort
    • Vitamin E

What is the Recovery Process Like?

Once you’re in the recovery phase, you can expect to spend three weeks dedicated to recouping from the procedure.

During these three weeks, you should follow all of your plastic surgeon’s instructions related to medication, changing your wound dress, and your follow-up appointments.

In addition, you can avoid interfering with the recovery process by:

  • Not wearing underwire bras, which irritate the skin and cause unnecessary inflammation during the healing process. Instead, you should wear sports bras, medical bras, or lightly supportive bras for six weeks after your surgery (Source: West County Plastic Surgeons).

  • Not sleeping on your stomach, which may cause your implants to shift, altering your personalized results. Instead, sleeping on your back will keep your implants in place while resting.

  • Not immersing yourself underwater. Your wounds are more likely to become infected if they get wet, so keep them nice and dry.

With these simple recovery steps, you can return to work in one to two weeks, depending on how strenuous your job is.

You’ll notice a reduction in bruising during the first 2 to 3 weeks of your recovery. After that, it’s smooth sailing to the healing finish line!

Why Do Plastic Surgeons Frequently Recommend Breast Augmentation and Lift?

While both augmentation and lift are breast rejuvenation rockstars, plastic surgeons often recommend combining the two for the best, most empowering results!

If you’re planning a revamp for your bust line, the combined breast augmentation and lift could hold the answer you seek. You’ll have the best possible results by bringing together two brilliant procedures. If you’re ready to launch your aesthetic journey today, we’re here to help you get the best answers and results!
