Factors to Consider when Exploring Facelift Options

Mini-facelift or facelift or liquid facelift?

Look 10 years younger through innovative new techniques in our facelift category, ranging from nonsurgical liquid facelift options to mini-facelift to full facelift options with world-renown facelift plastic surgeon, Phillip Chang, MD.

This is perhaps the most important factor to consider. Your face is extremely visible and you should chose a plastic surgeon is highly skilled, licensed and has previous experience of performing facelifts.

They should also be board certified in plastic surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Board qualifications are only given to surgeons who have done many years of training in this field and demonstrate high levels of experience and commitment to their field and patients.

There are many available options to patients who want to look younger, have firmer skin, eliminate sagging and wrinkles, and improve the overall appearance of their face. Younger patients (under 40s) are looking at liquid facelifts which use a mixture of fillers and Botox to provide a temporary change.

Generally speaking, if you are aged over 40, the earlier you chose to have a facelift procedure the better. This is due to still having sufficient skin elasticity which can help with providing optimal results.

Your lifestyle, genetics and level of sun exposure will also have a direct result on facial aging.

That would depend on your age and how much your face has aged. It also depends on what you want to have improved.

There are many types of facelift but the most common are:

Liquid Facelift – This is a non-surgical procedure that involves using fillers and Botox.

Mini Facelift – this is a surgical procedure that treats the lower part of the face. Jowls will be reduced, jawline tightened, cheeks will be higher and the neck should improve in appearance too.

Full Facelift – this will have the most dramatic effect. It is recommended for patients who have moderate to advanced aging on their face and neck. Many people opt to add a browlift, neck lift and eyelid blepharoplasty for a complete facial makeover.

This is a very commonly performed with a full face lift. It treats the brow area, pulling up the forehead to create a refreshed look. This can also improve wrinkles around the eyes, open up the eye area and reduce wrinkles on the forehead.

As we age the skin around our eyes can droop and puff up. Excess skin can hide the eyes and create a tired and unflattering appearance. This excess skin can cause sight issues and infections under the fold of skin. This can be done alone or added on to another surgical facial procedure.

As skin ages it loses elasticity which can cause skin to pull downwards – gravity takes over. The excess skin can cause wrinkles and bulges that many people find unappealing. This procedure can reduce the puffy, baggy skin beneath the eyes but it can not reduce dark shadows and wrinkles.

Once this procedure has been performed it is rarely needed again.

A Liquid Facelift uses fillers to add volume to aging skin. Patients who have facelifts can benefit from filler – particularly in the cheek area and the lips. They help plump up the face which creates a younger, fresher look.

Fat transfer is a great way to add volume to your face. Fat is taken from one area of your body and then injected into the face to provide plumpness and volume. It can be added to cheeks, under the eyelid, and around laughter lines.

Facelifts do not eliminate wrinkles and fine lines. Therefore, we recommend to some patients to have Botox to help reduce fine lines.

Skin is tightened by facelifts but they won’t improve skin tone and texture. Discoloration such as sun damage and brown spots, acne and redness can be reduced using a laser treatment such as the BBL Laser Treatment.

There are a number of tips we recommend to help prolong your facelift:

Avoid the sun and if you do need to be out in it wear clothes to protect your skin and ALWAYS use a strong sunscreen.

Have a really good diet full of fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to ensure you are getting your daily doses of vitamins and minerals. Avoid high fat, sugary foods.

Have a great skincare routine. Use products rich in retinoids, peptides and antioxidants.

Consider having regular skincare treatments such as laser therapy, chemical peels, and microneedling.

What to Expect from a Mini Facelift Surgery

As techniques evolve, surgeries that were invasive and required operating rooms and general anesthetic are now not the only options. The Facelift is one such procedure that has evolved and now it has a new edition: the Mini-Facelift. It does most of what the full one does – and all from the comfort of the surgeon’s office.
