Abdomen - Flanks - Upper Back - Arms - Thighs - Neck
Cosmetic sculpting of the body will often address factors such as fat and sagging skin, or many times both at the same time.
Despite how much you watch what you eat and exercise regularly, you might still be bothered by pockets of fat on your body. This can have an effect on your confidence and self-esteem. Here at Aesthetica Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center we offer the most advanced methods to effectively eliminate fat from those areas of concern.
Surgical liposuction is a body contouring procedure that reduces pockets of fat from the flanks, tummy, arms, neck, and thighs to create a more contoured appearance.
During your free consultation, Dr. Chang will assess the areas of your body you are concerned by and produce a plan to help you attain your cosmetic surgery goals.
Here at Aesthetica we strive to help you feel and look amazing.
Liposuction is a procedure to remove localized fat pockets through small inconspicuous incisions often hidden in an natural body crease or wrinkle. Areas that are commonly addressed include the abdomen, flanks, upper back, thighs, arms, and neck.
The procedure can be performed alone or be combined with other procedures such as tummy tuck, mommy makeover, or breast augmentation. Liposuction is most appropriate for minimal to moderate fat removal that does not required skin tightening or excision. The procedure can be performed in the office under local anesthesia and oral sedation if only one or two small areas are requested or under general anesthesia at a surgery center for larger areas.
The procedure will take about 1 to 2 hours per area. Two very small inconspicuous incisions are made in one of the folds of skin per area. Tumescent numbing medication as well a a medication to reduce bruising are injected into the fat. The fat is then removed with a small 2 mm cannula.
The result is a better sculpted body that you can feel confidant about.
Fat removal surgery is a terrific treatment for those who are at an ideal weight, but have troublesome areas of fat that are difficult to rid with even the most healthy lifestyle.
Women and men interested in liposuction should have healthy skin because liposuction is not a treatment for stretched-out skin.
It’s also important to know that liposuction is not a solution for weight loss.
Females undergoing liposuction should have no plans to become pregnant again as this may compromise the lasting outcome.
Dr. Chang provides his patients with advice on what to do before surgery. The best way to prepare for your liposuction surgery is to:
Avoid blood thinning medication – talk to your primary care doctor if you are taking medications if you are planning a liposuction surgery.
- Avoid smoking, try to stop at least 2 weeks before your surgery.
- Maintain a stable weight.
- Keep up with your regular exercise routine.
- Have a friend or loved one be on hand to collect you after the surgery. This is a must if you are having general anesthetic.
- Be prepared at home. Have everything you need to recover in one place for ease.
Post surgery you will be given detailed instructions on how to help your body recover quickly and safely. You should also consider the following:
- All patients will wear a compressive bandage for about 4 weeks.
- There will be a degree of swelling and bruising for 1 to 2 weeks after.
- Final results should not be expected for at least 3 to 6 months. They will be swelling for a while.
- Many people are able to see an immediate difference.
- Most patients are presentable without drawing attention in 1 to 2 weeks.
- Sutures, if any, are removed in 10 to 14 days
- Strenuous exercise should also be avoided for 2 to 4 weeks to help in the recovery process.
- Apply aquaphor ointment to exposed sutures and incisions twice a day until the sutures are removed.
- Most patients will take 3 to 7 days off work.
- Pain is minimal to moderate – you will be given narcotic pain medication for the first few days to take if needed.
As with any surgery, there are associated risks. Only you can decide whether the procedure can achieve your goals and whether the recovery and risks are acceptable to you. The most common and significant problems associated with any type of liposuction procedure are contour irregularities and residual skin excess. Other complications are rare but can include:
- Local bleeding or bruising.
- Infection, particularly from the absorbable sutures.
- Loss of sensation although rare.
- Widened or thickened scar.
- Asymmetry (unevenness between two sides).
- Delayed wound healing with skin or tissue necrosis.
- Extra skin at the ends of the incisions.
Unsatisfactory results may require additional procedures. Patients will generally be responsible for any associated facility fees.
Your cost for liposuction will depend on whether or not additional procedures are performed. Other procedures include: liposuction in multiple areas, and lifts, such as neck or arm. And the type of anesthesia (local vs general) will change the price. See the price card below.
Liposuction is a common procedure to have with many other surgical procedures. They can include:
- Lower body liposuction
- Mommy makeover
- Tummy tuck
- Breast augmentation
- Thigh lift
- Buttock Lift
- Neck Lift
- Arm lift or brachioplasty
Liposuction removes the excess fat and a lift removes excess skin. Combined together the area worked on becomes slimmer, sleeker and tighter.
Coolsculpting or kybella are procedures that are more appropriate for minor fat pockets. Both are nonsurgical options with no downtime. Both will result in about a 20% reduction in fat with each treatment. Patients who are looking for more immediate and dramatic results will benefit more from liposuction.
Liposuction surgery only corrects excess fat. For loose skin, Dr. Chang may recommend combining liposuction with a lift surgery. Lipo is often done along with skin tightening surgery, like a tummy tuck, thighplasty, or arm lift, to give you your best results. To correct cellulite, there are many minimally invasive and nonsurgical treatments, including VelaShape, Cellulaze, Venus Freeze, and VASER Shape. During your consultation, talk to Dr. Chang about your all concerns including cellulite and loose skin so your best treatment plan is created.
