Are You Hiding Your Leg Veins? Try Laser Vein Removal!

Christmas is approaching, and we all know what that means.

It’s time to look your best for family parties and winter outings!

Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean your legs won’t peak out under your warm wool coat—and the last thing you want all those relatives to see those thin, bluish veins visible on your legs.

These veins, called spider or varicose veins, don’t look so small when everyone can see them.

It’s time to show off your vein-free legs instead of hiding them. Laser vein removal is the answer to spider and varicose veins!

What Causes Spider Veins on Your Legs?

  1. Getting Older: As we age, the valves in our veins get weaker. Think of these valves as tiny doors that open and close to help blood move in the right direction. When these doors don’t work as well, blood can pool in the veins, leading to spider veins.
  2. Hormonal Changes: Changes in estrogen levels—during puberty, pregnancy, or when taking birth control pills—cause spider veins.
  3. Sun Damage: Spending too much time in the sun without sunscreen can cause spider veins, especially on the face, by damaging the tiny blood vessels near the skin’s surface.
  4. Injuries: Sometimes, a bump or injury can damage blood vessels and cause them to become more noticeable.
  5. Being on Your Feet a Lot: If you stand or sit for long periods, the blood in your legs has to work harder to move up to your heart, weakening the vein valves and leading to spider veins.
  6. Family History: If your mom, dad, or grandparents had spider veins, you might get them, too.

Are Spider Veins Vital for Your Health?

Spider veins aren’t essential parts of your body. On the contrary, they are often unhealthy and useless for circulating blood. Your body will get better blood distribution without them!

How Do Prominent Leg Veins Affect Your Confidence and Comfort?

Do you avoid shorts in the summer because pants hide the veins so much better? And in the winter, do you opt for pants again because dresses are still too revealing?

No leg veins should control your wardrobe choices! Don’t give them power over you. Even though they’re hard to mask, it’s easier to remove them altogether!

How Does Laser Vein Removal Work on Spider Veins?

The appointment will begin with cleaning your skin before your doctor applies the numbing cream. Then, Dr. Chang will run a laser hand device over your spider veins, funneling light into the abnormal veins. This light will penetrate the vein, irritating it and forcing it to close its walls.

For your vein removal procedure, you can expect to spend less than one hour in the office.

Most patients report little to no pain during their vein removal procedures. At most, you may feel a slight tingling or stinging sensation as the light pulses into your veins.

After the procedure, you can return home and go about your typical day. In four to six weeks, the dead veins will be absorbed into the body and become invisible.

Are You a Candidate for Laser Vein Removal?

The ideal laser vein removal candidate:

  • Has small to medium spider veins on their legs
  • Is in good health
  • Is not pregnant
  • Does not have any blood clots
  • Deals with painful varicose veins

How Should You Prepare for Laser Vein Removal?

Before you officially decide to have a vein removal treatment, you should schedule a consultation with Dr. Chang. During the appointment, he will discuss a plan to have your spider veins removed and take care of any that may appear in the future. You will review items such as your goals and how many treatments are necessary to achieve them.

You should also tell Dr. Chang if you’re taking any medications or have any health concerns. In particular, you should mention if you have a history of bleeding disorders or are taking blood-thinning medications, including aspirin and ibuprofen.

Once you have scheduled your vein removal appointment, you should not eat or drink 8 hours before the procedure. Often, this means fasting from midnight until your appointment. You may also ask someone to drive you home from the appointment if it makes you feel more comfortable.

Post-Procedural Care and Downtime for Laser Vein Removal

After your vein removal, you can return to your daily life immediately!

While you may notice some swelling, redness, or bruising around the treatment spot, these minor side effects will fade in 1-2 weeks. You should wear compression garments to enhance blood flow for optimal healing. You should also avoid sun exposure during this time and wear sunscreen on treated areas.

Including walking as a regular part of your daily routine after laser vein removal is advisable for improved blood flow.

How Effective is Laser Vein Removal?

This process of eliminating spider veins through laser is highly effective. The treated veins will die, never to return. While the procedure can’t prevent the appearance of more spider veins, it will deal with them as soon as they rear their ugly heads.
