Your eyes may be the window to your soul, but they also show signs of aging before any other area on your face. No one likes wrinkles, but wrinkles forming under your eyes are bound to happen eventually.

Eye wrinkles form for a number of reasons, like loss of facial volume and collagen, sun damage, and family genes. The good news is that thanks to advances in cosmetic surgery procedures and other non-surgical treatments, you can significantly soften the appearance of wrinkles. If you seem to be aging faster than you’d like, don’t fret; Aesthetica has several effective ways to fight wrinkles and get you looking as young as you feel.

Early Prevention

Knowing your options on how to eliminate under-eye wrinkles is helpful, but first, it’s important to educate yourself on how to prevent wrinkles from appearing. Protecting your skin from the sun, moisturizing regularly, eating well, and getting plenty of sleep will all do wonders for your skin and reduce wrinkles. Take care of yourself and your face will respond kindly.

Eye Massages

One of the simplest ways to reduce wrinkles is a gentle massage. Massaging the skin increases the circulation of blood underneath the skin, and that flow helps rid the skin of wrinkles. Massaging away wrinkles can be applied to other areas of the body as well. You can massage your own eyes in the comfort of your home, or visit a spa and have a professional masseuse do it.

Health Foods, Oils & Masks

Several foods that you can use to combat wrinkles act as dual threats, as they are suitable for treating wrinkles and also beneficial for your diet. Avocado, for example, is often used externally as a mask and is also a great source of healthy fats to incorporate into your diet. Similarly, Vitamin C has proven to be useful both externally for treating wrinkles and internally for your diet.

Oils are also a healthy way to treat wrinkles. Fatty carrier oils such as olive, coconut, and avocado oils do wonders for your skin. Essential oils are healthy for your skin as well, though many essential oils are extremely potent and should be used in small quantities, and diluted with a carrier oil before use.

There are several masks on the market you can use to soften wrinkles. Many of these masks are made of ingredients already mentioned, such as avocado and essential oil masks. Various clay masks are also available for purchase. These masks are known for quickly reducing the appearance of wrinkles. But be aware, some masks can dry out your face and cause damage to the sensitive areas around your eyes. Consult with Aesthetica to see what type of mask is best for you.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels help reduce the visibility of wrinkles under your eyes, but this option comes with considerations. A chemical peel is a process that involves putting chemical solutions on your face. These chemicals remove the skin from your face, and new skin soon takes the place of the skin that has been removed.

Applying harsh chemicals to your skin is not something to take lightly. The chemical peel procedure requires that you work closely with a medical professional to ensure the success of the treatment. Often, you must stop taking certain medications before the peel, and after the peel, your provider may prescribe antibiotics. Again, it is best to consult with Aesthetica before applying a chemical peel.

Surgery

While early prevention, massage, and proper diet will all aid in reducing wrinkles, the best way to seriously eliminate the wrinkles under your eyes is a cosmetic procedure known as blepharoplasty. Eyelid surgery is the second most common cosmetic surgery procedure performed in the United States, and it has become a speciality of Dr. Chang’s at Aesthetica.

Blepharoplasty firms up the skin that naturally sags around our eyes as we age. The procedure helps you look more refreshed, energetic and youthful. There are two types of blepharoplasty: upper and lower blepharoplasty. The goal of an upper blepharoplasty is to remove excess skin and some fat from the upper lid. The goal of lower blepharoplasty is primarily to remove excess bags on the lower lids. Patients have the option of have surgery performed on their upper lids, their lower lids, or both.

The benefits of blepharoplasty go beyond appearance. If the folds of skin under your eyes have impaired your peripheral vision, you’ll see better after blepharoplasty. And for some migraine sufferers, the procedure can relieve nerve pressure around the eyes and alleviate pain.

Like all cosmetic surgeries, you’ll be most happy with blepharoplasty if you openly discuss your expectations up front. Your doctor can help you understand whether eyelid surgery will give you the results you’re ultimately looking for or whether you should consider other options as well. Many patients combine blepharoplasty with laser surfacing, filler injections or forehead lifts.

Brown sun and age spots are some of the first signs of aging and sun damage.

Treatment options include

  1. Creams such as hydroquinone and retin A.  Hydroquinone is a bleaching agent while Retin A increases cellular turnover.  Over-the-counter creams will generally not have high enough concentrations to be effective.
  2. Forever Young BBL – Cutting edge technology providing the most powerful and effective IPL option.

The Forever Young BBL uses Broad Band Light to alter skin melanin and rejuvenate cellular DNA.  Instead of spending time and money on ineffective skin care products many of our patients have turned to the Forever Young BBL to make their skin more vibrant and youthful; reducing brown and red pigmentation problems, promoting collagen, and rejuvenating cellular DNA. It is the most popular laser treatment in our clinic.

What to expect from the Forever Young BBL:

  • Treatments take 20-30 minutes

  • Most patients will benefit from adding a Micro Laser Peel and a Profractional Laser Peel ( Triple Laser Package )
  • Fine facial lines and wrinkles are a result of UV sun damage, the breakdown of collagen, and a decrease in skin hydration. The Micro Laser Peel and the Profractional Laser are ablative lasers designed to reverse these changes.

    • The Micro Laser Peel precisely ablates the surface skin in order to remove UV damaged skin
    • The Profractional Laser ablates deep columns of skin that can reach to the deep dermis. This allows for skin contraction but it also encourages new cell grown and organizes new collagen

Results depend on the depth of treatment. Recovery from a maintenance treatment can be as little as a day; but recovery from aggressive treatments can be as much as 7 days. Many patients will benefit from the addition of the Forever Young BBL ( Triple Laser Package ).
