About PRP Therapy

Aesthetica Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center is proud to offer platelet-rich plasma therapy (also called PRP) to help replenish your facial appearance and thinning hair. PRP therapy is one of the most sought after cosmetic treatments in the industry due to its natural origin and thrilling results. The treatment uses a patient's very own plasma to stimulate the skin, concealing the prevalence of wrinkles. When injected into the scalp, it helps stimulate hair growth for a fuller head of hair. PRP can also be combined with hyaluronic acid to use it as a collagen-induced filler to rejuvenate the face for a softer complexion. In addition, patients can combine PRP with laser skin resurfacing or microneedling for even more effective results. To learn more about PRP therapy, call Aesthetica Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center in Leesburg, VA to schedule a consultation. We are always excited to discuss the benefits of PRP as well as what it can do for your cosmetic.

Ideal Candidates

Patients who desire hair restoration or have deep wrinkles, droopy skin, volume loss, and uneven skin tone are usually the best candidates for PRP therapy. Since it promotes collagen production naturally, it's also a wonderful treatment choice for refreshing tired-looking skin. Inform us about any skin conditions, anemia, or blood disorders to decide if it's safe for you to undergo PRP therapy.

Procedure Technique

After you're comfortably seated in one of our minor procedure areas, a small amount of blood will be pulled from your arm and put into a centrifuge machine. Most of the time we remove around one vial of blood. After approximately 15 minutes on the centrifuge machine, the components of the blood separate and are then ready to be injected. We will load your rich plasma into a syringe and inject it into the predetermined locations. The PRP process typically only takes approximately five minutes, but that can vary on a patient-to-patient basis.

What to Expect

Plasma from PRP therapy naturally promotes the production of collagen and elastin to reveal tauter, more youthful-appearing skin. It is also an effective treatment for stimulating hair growth. As it uses your own blood, the risk of adverse or allergic reactions is basically nonexistent. You can expect your face to be a bit red following PRP therapy as traces of red blood cells can make it into the injection. For hair restoration, the crown and scalp may be a little sore. Cold packs can be used on the injection area to minimize discomfort and swelling. It is recommended that you undergo treatments in 4 – 6 week intervals to maintain results.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does PRP therapy cost?
The cost of PRP therapy will be dependent on the area being treated and if it is combined with another cosmetic procedure. We can come up with an estimated cost during your initial consultation and discuss all your payment options.

Will I need more treatments?
PRP hair restoration is sold as a package of three treatments because it is known that hair will not grow until after the second treatment. 90% of patients will see hair growth after the second treatment. No hair growth is expected after the first treatment. A yearly maintenance treatment is required as 30% of patients will begin to show new hair loss after 12 months.

How long do results last?
PRP therapy has been known to last for 4 – 8 weeks. The longevity of the results will vary from each patient and will depend on the area being treated. The benefit of this procedure is that it does not require surgery or significant downtime and is more affordable.

Is PRP hair restoration permanent?
PRP plasma-rich protein hair restoration is not a permanent solution to hair restoration. The only permanent solution to hair restoration is hair transplantation. The benefit of PRP hair restoration is that it is an effective alternative that does not require surgery.

What is the benefit of combining the Profractional laser with PRP plasma-rich protein?
The body normally responds to injury by releasing growth factors located inside of your platelets. These growth factors induce the production of new collagen and angiogenesis. Profractional laser resurfacing alone can induce the rejuvenation of your skin. PRP growth factors delivered directly by injection into the deep and superficial dermis not only promotes healing, but promotes further collagen production and growth factor development for a more dramatic and radiant result.
