About Eyelid Surgery
A person's eyes are an appealing feature of the face that deserve to be visible, but sometimes an excess of skin around the eyes can produce a tired and unflattering facial appearance. Plastic surgeon Dr. Phillip Chang uses eyelid surgery (known as blepharoplasty) to reduce excess skin and rejuvenate the lower or upper eyelid, creating a look that appears softer and rejuvenated. So many men and women receive eyelid surgery at Aesthetica Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center to eliminate saggy eyelids, leading to improved functionality and facial appearance. Blepharoplasty, whether lower or upper, creates a more awakened appearance and can give you natural yet noticeable improvements. Eyelid Lift Reviews
"We, yes, my husband, Mike, and I, have been challenged by ravages of time, just like all of us. We had the good fortune to have found the talented Dr. Chang, and the magic that he has worked for us has been nothing short of a miracle. Not only did he ply his skills to roll back pages of time for me, but he literally opened my husband’s eyes. Mike had just undergone corrective ophthalmologistic surgery, which had corrected his focus, but his field of vision was terribly impaired by folds of ugly skin. Not only did Dr. Chang address this issue, but made my husband look ten years younger. Who cares if you can focus your eyes, but no one can see them? During these many and complex procedures, Dr. Chang always listened and considered our needs above all. There is no one that we feel more comfortable with when it comes to decisions concerning our cosmetic maintenance… Forever young.Marie-Claire & Mike"- M.K. / Google / Aug 07, 2017

"Dr Chang is the best surgeon. I knew he would be my go to doctor for fillers and surgery from the first day I met with him. He listens and will tell you what will look best. What you want to always achieve is to look natural and not show that you have been worked on. Dr Chang does just that =). He has definitely helped with my self confidence and I could not have asked for more. I had a slight hump on the bridge of my nose and he fixed it and I love it. It is still my nose=). I go in for also fillers and he never over does it and is excellent with fillers. Will be doing upper eyelid surgery in July and I know he will do an excellent job=)."- L.P. / Google / Aug 07, 2016
"I had a mini facelift and a upper / lower blepharoplasty performed by Dr. Chang less than a year ago. I am very pleased with the result of the surgery. The change looks so natural -- my eyes and jowl lines are more youthful. Prior to making my decision, I researched extensively for a plastic surgeon who was rated as a top certified plastic surgeon. Dr. Chang is a true professional. He and and his staff made me feel comfortable through the process. I visited his office today for a IIPL, and will continue to visit them for any future service."- C.E. / Google / Aug 07, 2016
"Soon to Be 50 Yrs Old. Drainless TT with Muscle Repair, Lipo Flanks and Bra Fat - Had my procedure Nov 7. With Dr. Phillip Chang. Today I am 4 days post op and today has been the best day by far. A few things that I have totally been grateful for during my recovery is the fact that the compression garment they put me in after surgery is crotchless, a 5" toliet seat riser has been a blessing and lots of pillows because both sitting and reclining require pillows. Not sure what role my lady parts played a role in the surgery but I was very swollen and very sore. I felt like I am unable to get myself completely dry after going to the bathroom so I use a baby wipe and I feel that has helped with my private area not getting any more sore from urine burns. I feel like I have been able to move around a good bit because standing and moving almost feels better than sitting and trying to recline. Sitting and reclining causes a pulling sensation. I have one area near my incision that burns enough to bring tears to my eyes if I move wrong. Bending to get anything is totally not happening. Few worries are dents in my stomach (which one realself writer told me her ps said they were from the the internal sutures). I am also concerned that my insision looks way higher on the right side. I will try to post pics."- V. / RealSelf / Nov 11, 2019
Upper or lower blepharoplasty is a facial cosmetic enhancement that is performed on both women and men. At your first visit, treatment options will be explained by Dr. Chang based on your areas of concern that need to be corrected. Generally, ideal candidates wish to correct excess, drooping skin and folds that exist on the top eyelid, or bloated skin just under the bottom eyelid. These irregularities can cause functional and visual difficulties that can get in the way of normal, everyday activities. For a more awake look, blepharoplasty may be the appropriate surgery for you. If you have hanging skin that folds over on the upper eyelid, or bags under the eyes, blepharoplasty can treat this to provide you with a more youthful appearance.
Depending on the type and complex nature of the eyelid surgery, some form of anesthesia will be provided. Eyelid surgery may be done on the top eyelid by itself, under or on the bottom eyelid, or a blend of both eyelids.
Upper eyelid surgery assists in decreasing the folds of skin that impair vision to produce a more awakened and appealing look. The incision point is often placed along the lid crease to excise loose skin and fatty tissue.
Eyelid correction on the lower lid is performed to improve puffy and bulging skin beneath the lower lid. In most cases, an incision is carefully made along the lash line to surgically remove tissue and fat, and the skin is subtly lifted to allow for a softer, flatter look. Sometimes, a nonsurgical laser procedure may be incorporated to help with discoloration, while fillers can be used for more smoothness and softening if desired.
What to Expect
Blepharoplasty of the upper or lower eyelid can take up to two hours considering whether both eyes or one is treated. After this outpatient surgery, you should plan about a week to recover and rest at home. A cold compress can assist in reducing discomfort, swelling, and bruising. The outcomes from blepharoplasty may last a decade or longer, but while they are long lasting, aging does not stop. To maintain your surgical outcomes, other nonsurgical cosmetic treatments at Aesthetica Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center such as fillers, peels, and lasers can be added to create a youthful-looking appearance.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does eyelid surgery cost?
Eyelid surgery costs can vary depending on whether you are having an upper eyelid lift, lower, or both. Once your treatment plan has been created during your consultation, Dr. Chang can talk to you about estimated costs. To get natural-looking results that last a long time, it is better to focus on finding a skilled plastic surgeon who you trust, like Dr. Chang instead of trying to find the cheapest place. To make it easy for you to afford a great eyelid lift, Aesthetica Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center accepts many payment methods and we can help you find low-interest medical financing.
Can I use insurance to pay for my eyelid surgery?
If excess skin is compromising your vision, your health insurance may pay for part of your eyelid lift. Please tell Dr. Chang during your consultation if you may be using your insurance. Someone at Aesthetica Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center will help you get the needed information and paperwork for your insurance company to process your claim. In most cases, you will need a diagnosis from an optometrist or ophthalmologist that an eyelid lift will improve your field of vision.
What are some other benefits of an eyelid lift?
Blepharoplasty not only helps to refresh your appearance, but also improves other aspects of your life. You may find your field of vision expands when excess hanging skin from your upper eyelid is removed. It can also be much easier to apply eye makeup when your upper eyelid is smooth. Eliminating fine lines, "crepey" skin, puffy bags, and dark circles under the eyes can make your eyes look brighter and fuller without cosmetics.
Will an eyelid lift fix wrinkles and Crow's feet?
Crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles may be better treated with a facelift, browlift, or a cheek lift as the results of the eyelid surgery are confined to the eyelids only. Eyelid surgery can also be combined with a nonsurgical procedure such as BOTOX, which combats wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes. An injectable filler can also be effective because it adds volume to hollow areas for a softer, smoother appearance. During your consultation, Dr. Chang will create your unique treatment plan based on your needs and goals.
What about nonsurgical treatments instead of eye surgery?
Nonsurgical skin tightening and injectable wrinkle treatments, like BOTOX, Juvéderm, or Restylane, can provide mild improvements to the eyelids. However, if you have moderate to severe sagging skin or want long-lasting results, an eyelid lift would be better than a nonsurgical treatment. Once you have talked to Dr. Chang about your concerns and goals for your eyes, he can explain his recommendations for your nonsurgical or surgical treatment plan. He may also suggest combining both surgical and nonsurgical procedures for your best results.
