Another decade in the books! Its 2020 which means as of October of this year, Instagram will be 10 years old. Instagram was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Kreiger as a photo sharing app. After the app launched for iOS on October 6, 2010, it quickly gained over one million registered users in the first two months.
As of today, Instagram has over one billion active users all over the world. To say that Instagram has played a huge role in social media interactions is an understatement. Instagram is the second most popular social media platform after Facebook worldwide, and has become the prefered place to share selfies. With all of the available photoshopping apps and filters available to fine tune pictures, it’s no wonder there is so much emphasis put on getting the perfect selfie.
What is a Perfect Selfie?
What makes a selfie good? The perfect selfie has become a wide-eyed, smooth skinned, pouty lipped look. Influencers like Kylie Jenner, Kim Kardashian and Ariana Grande have perfected this look, and now millions of others are trying to copy it. Posting that perfect selfie often-times requires a lot of planning and time to edit using make-up, photoshop, VSCO, and other various apps designed to create this Insta-worthy look. The difference between Kylie, Kim and Ariana and the regular woman is a team of people whose sole job is to create the perfect selfie for them.
The good news is, there are ways for the average woman to create that perfect selfie. There are ways to get smoother skin, a more symmetrical appearing face and a photo worthy visage that do not involve any sort of surgery.
Nonsurgical Cosmetic Procedures for Instagram-worthy Selfies
Regular people don’t have access to a Glam Squad and a personalized cosmetic surgeon available at a moments notice. But regular people do have access to cosmetic practitioners who can enhance the natural contours of the their faces. Injectables can be a time saver, no more hours spent contouring high cheekbones and fuller lips with make-up.
Botox
Botox is used by many people to reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the face that are caused by muscle use. These areas are usually found on the forehead, between the eyes, around the eyes (crows feet) and around the mouth. Botox is made using botulinum toxin which temporarily paralyzes muscles thus reducing the appearance of fine-lines and wrinkles. It is a simple and non-invasive way to smooth out your skin to prepare for that perfect selfie. Typically this procedure will last up to six months.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are injected under the skin to plump up the area and give it more volume. Juvaderm is a popular filler that is injected under the skin in the cheekbone area to give the appearance of higher-cheekbones. The same can be done for fuller lips and to give a stronger jawline. In certain situations, fillers can also be used to smooth out certain areas in the nose instead of a full nose job. Fillers will usually last between 6 to 12 months before they will begin to be broken down by the body.
Laser Hair Removal
Hair removal from the face does a lot in terms of smoothing out the look of skin. Laser hair removal is the process of using a small laser to kill the hair follicles and making the hairs fall out. It is a great way to reduce peach fuzz on the face. It can take up to six sessions for the hair to all be gone.
Skin and Cosmetic Treatments
Another excellent way to even out skin tone and to remove small imperfections are facials and face peels. There are a wide variety of these procedures available ranging from deep moisture treatments to chemical peels to microneedling. They are designed to stimulate new skin growth and to get rid of old skin cells.
Eyebrow and Eyelash
Lastly, in order to get those doe-eyed lashes and striking brows, you’ll either need a good Insta-filter or you can get lash extensions and eyebrow tinting. Lash extensions will make those eyes really pop! And having eyebrow tinting will give a more bold look.
