For some people, working from home has been a dream — attending meetings from the couch, wearing pajama pants, and not having to bump into the boss in the hallway has been awesome. For others, not having anywhere to go, being alone most of the time, and not having the bustle of normalcy has been a hassle. No matter which side of the spectrum you fall on, everyone can agree that constantly seeing our own reflection during Zoom meetings is awkward. It has made us keenly aware of how we look, and more often than not this makes us self-conscious. Fortunately, there are many ways to help us look better over Zoom, both cosmetic and non-cosmetic!
Read below to learn how to look better over Zoom!
Lighting Is Everything!
Sitting in front of a window or having a soft light (like a desk lamp) illuminating your face from the front will eliminate harsh shadows and make your skin glow. Having good lighting is the easiest and quickest way to having clearer skin for every meeting. Putting your computer at eye-level (by stacking books or a box) will also help make your facial proportions appear more realistic to real-life. A good hack to help even the distribution of light is to place a white piece of paper on the table where you’ll be sitting. This will help the light bounce around your face and give you an overall brighter look during your meeting!
Makeup: More or Less?
Changing your makeup routine for Zoom may sound silly. But, cameras and computers change the way our face is interpreted: it washes our skin out, makes our features smaller (or larger, depending on camera perspective) and distorts coloring. Movie actors and actresses do different makeup routines specifically for the cameras in order to better reflect reality. Take a tip from the actors and do the same!
For some features, you’ll want to add more makeup than you usually do. Eyeliner, eyeshadow, blush, and lipstick are some areas you may want to add more than usual (depending on what you’d like to highlight). For example, if you wear eyeliner, you may want to consider a thicker line so the camera picks up the detail. If you wear a purplish lipstick, maybe add two coats instead of one so the computer doesn’t wash it out. Experiment and have fun! Not only will Zoom-specific makeup make you look better in Zoom calls, but it’ll also give you a chance to broaden your makeup expertise.
For other features, you can experiment with less makeup. For example, if your skin is already mostly clear, you may not need to add much foundation (if at all) since computer cameras tend to smooth skin. Or, you may want to use less eyeshadow, since blocks of color really pop on Zoom. Again, experiment! See what features you want to highlight and/or minimize, and switch up your makeup routine.
The Distinctive Jawline
Do you have a double-chin or sagging fat or skin around the neck and jawline? You’re not alone! According to this study, about 50% of both men and women are subconsciously aware of their submental fullness which is a really fancy (medical) term for excess fat under the chin.
The selfie generation certainly doesn’t help lower this awareness and now with everyone looking at themselves on camera in Zoom calls, the heightened awareness of submental fullness (just a fun phrase to say… try it!) have skyrocketed neck lift and CoolSculpting procedures as two of the hottest trending cosmetic procedures in a post-COVID-19 world.
The beauty of CoolSculpting in particular is that it is non-surgical, relatively pain-free (like putting really cold ice cubes on your skin), has no downtime (can be done on your lunch break if you wish), and produces remarkable results.
The Perfect Nose
With social media filters, seeing ourselves with different facial features is quite common. Both Snapchat and Instagram can leave us wanting to change our features. For many of us, seeing ourselves on Zoom has increased this desire.
A rhinoplasty or non-surgical rhinoplasty may be the perfect solution to helping gain confidence and feel more natural on Zoom and in real life. With our noses being the center of our faces, it plays a major role in how we look, whether our face appears symmetrical, and how our profile looks. The rhinoplasty is becoming more and more popular, becoming one of the most performed cosmetic procedures in America. Not only can these cosmetic procedures correct facial proportions, remedy misshapen nose features, and make the nose smaller, but it also adds a youthful look to the face.
If you don’t feel ready for a rhinoplasty, there are many great tutorials on YouTube for how to use makeup to contour and shape your nose for Zoom! While these changes aren’t permanent, it can add that extra pizzazz you’re looking for.
Pucker Up!
On Zoom, the facial features that shine the most are hair, eyes, nose, and lips. Making our lips look fantastic is a great way to boost our overall appearance and make us look younger! Today, plump, pouty lips are most desired. This look isn’t difficult to mimic for Zoom perfection!
For a more permanent lip plump, injectables are a great way to get larger, rounder lips. Similar to the rhinoplasty, lip jobs are becoming more and more popular. This can be done by a lip flip, lip fillers, or other injectables. There are many options to choose from slight to significant! This procedure is safe, easy, effective, can improve your confidence, and has great results!
If you’re looking for a less permanent solution, there are many great hacks on how to plump lips, including home kits and lip scrubs. But make sure whatever methods you use, that they’re safe and healthy (avoid the Kylie Jenner glass challenge from a few years ago — that was not safe!) Makeup also can give the appearance of plumper lips by artistic overlining and color methods. Have fun and experiment!
Perfect Time For Procedures!!
As we all sit behind our computer cameras to do work, we often think about what life will be like when things return to “normal.” However, this time of being at home is the perfect opportunity to work on yourself to assure that you feel more beautiful and more confident! Whether you’re looking for a rhinoplasty, lip fillers, facial lifts, breast implants, neck lifts, or double-chin fixes, this time is perfect to work on yourself without other distractions. Plus, it makes for easier, and less stressful recovery! So if you’ve been considering a cosmetic procedure for some time now, now is the time to treat yourself. Because nothing looks better on Zoom or in real-life than that fully-you confidence!
