CoolSculpting is a patented FDA approved nonsurgical technique used to reduce the
appearance of unwanted fat by freezing fat deposits in areas like chin, flanks (aka saddlebags),
abdominal area, and the inner thighs. The medical term for this advanced technology is
cryolipolysis, using cold to gently freeze and destroy fat cells. The procedure is safe and
intended for people who have reached their ideal weight and still need to address stubborn fat
that is not responsive to diet and exercise.

CoolSculpting has helped many people refine their physique. It can even help address stubborn inner thigh fat.

How Safe Is CoolSculpting?

Cleared by the Food and Drug Administration in 2012, CoolSculpting is a safe, noninvasive outpatient procedure that doesn’t require anesthesia. Patients can expect to see some temporary swelling, bruising and sensitivity immediately following the treatment. Minor redness or soreness of the inner thighs may occur for a few weeks for some patients. Millions of men and women around the world have experienced the benefits of improved appearance after this short office procedure.

NOTE: CoolSculpting may not be a good fit for individuals with a history of Raynaud’s Disease
or severe sensitivity to cold temperatures.

What Happens During An Inner Thigh CoolSculpting Treatment?

CoolSculpting is available through a plastic surgeon, physician, or nurse practitioner who is
trained in the CoolSculpting procedure. Patients can expect CoolSculpting to take approximately
35 minutes for each thigh. Some patients have other treatments while this process is
happening. Recovery time is minimal, and most patients resume normal activity right away.

How CoolSculpting Works

CoolSculpting works by using extreme cold to break down subcutaneous fat cells while leaving
skin, muscle and other tissues undisturbed. The fat cells, which have a much higher freezing
temperature, are then metabolized by the body over 4-6 weeks and flushed from the body as
waste in the natural cleansing process.

A trained practitioner or doctor trained in cryolipolysis will perform the process with a handheld device connected to a hose. Using a gel pad and applicator, the doctor applies the cooling device to the targeted fat, moving it over the skin. The applicator uses cooling and suction to eliminate stubborn fat deposits that otherwise resist elimination through diet and exercise. Some offices can treat several areas at once using multiple machines. An inner thigh procedure typically takes 35 minutes per thigh.

The CoolSculpting Device

The CoolSculpting device has two cooling plates and a vacuum. The nozzle sucks up an area of
fat, holding it between the two cooling plates. The calibrated temperature is not cold enough to
harm skin, blood vessels, muscles and nerves, while safely freezing the subcutaneous fat
beneath the skin’s surface in the targeted area of the thigh. The device may also be used to
freeze abdominal fat and love handles.

Sensations During A CoolSculpting Procedure

Normal sensations you can expect during the procedure include:

  • A feeling of intense cold
  • Tingling or stinging on skin surface
  • Pulling from the device suction
  • Muscle cramping due to cold

During the procedure, patients often talk with the practitioner, listen to music or read.

After CoolSculpting Is Done

Directly after the treatment using the CoolSculpting machine, the treated area will be vigorously massaged to help further break up frozen deep fat tissue deposits. This aids the body in absorbing fat cells. Some patients find this stage slightly uncomfortable, but it is necessary to break up the fat and achieve the best results.

An experienced CoolSculpting provider will know specific techniques that are crucial to
providing the best results in one session.

Results You Can Expect

“The thickness of superficial fat layers” decreases anywhere “from 20% to 80%, following a single cryolipolysis treatment. The decrease in fat thickness occurs gradually over the first 3 months following treatment, and is most pronounced in patients with limited, discrete fat bulges.” National Institute of Health (NIH). In a study done by investigators of the NIH of 518 patients, no significant side effects were reported, with 82 percent of patients stating they would recommend the procedure to a friend.

Cost For CoolSculpting Inner Thighs

The cost depends on where you live, whether a surgeon or nurse practitioner is performing the procedure and how many sessions may need to have. Sometimes cosmetic surgery facilities have special offers such as discounts for multiple treatments or money off. Expect to pay around $700 for each session (which would cover one thigh).
