Did you know that more than 6.4 million cosmetic procedures were performed last year on patients between the ages of 40 and 50? This is according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Why is cosmetic surgery especially popular for people in their forties?

Patients between the ages of 40 and 50 have a multitude of options available for rejuvenating their youthful appearance.

As people age, skin begins to lose its elasticity, definition, and volume. This is a natural process that people say makes them look older than they feel.

Common areas of concern for those in their forties are deep facial lines and wrinkles, bags underneath the eyes, loose or sagging skin, and a decreased vibrancy in skin tone. Thanks to a variety of advancements in both surgical and nonsurgical treatments, these signs of aging can be treated in a variety of ways.

Plastic Surgery in Your 30 and 40s

In your 20s, looking young is easy… you ARE young.  In your 30’s looking young because just a little bit harder.  Staying fit and keeping weight off becomes just a little bit harder as most people are just getting started in their careers and are trying to settle down in their personal lives and start having families.  Facial volume specifically in the cheeks and temples begins to decrease while fat volume in the rest of the body appears to increase.

As your metabolism slows, fat will become more resistant to exercise and dieting. Bags, lines, and wrinkles can make you look tired and worn out, often portraying the opposite of how you feel. If you’re hoping to do some maintenance, noticing some unwanted changes in your skin and body, and, for the sake of some procedures, finished having children, plastic surgery may have some great solutions for you.

The 40’s are just an extension of the 30’s; everything is simply more exaggerated. While most people in their 30s will only need non-surgical cosmetic procedures such as botox, fillers, and laser skin procedures, patients in their 40’s might begin to consider minor surgical procedures such as the mini facelift or the eyelid rejuvenation surgeries to improve the appearance of aging.

Long-Term Vs. Short-Term Benefits

Surgical procedures often provide the best long-term benefits. Things like breast augmentation, liposuction, tummy tucks and facelifts are popular treatments designed to enhance and revitalize a patient’s appearance.

Many people are not ready for surgery however. For those who are looking for less invasive procedures, BOTOX®, dermal fillers, and other skin treatments offer effective results as well.

Aging is a natural part of life that no one can hide from or avoid. While each person ages differently, gradual changes take place over time that leave telling signs that you may want to eliminate.

Most frequent questions and answers

Acne is the most common skin condition in the U.S. affecting nearly 50 million Americans at any time. Acne is caused when hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells. It can often be persistent and unsightly.

The Acne Clear BBL is a cutting-edge acne treatment that uses the power of light to comfortably and effectively clear acne without expensive creams or toxic medicines…

Brown sun and age spots are some of the first signs of aging and sun damage.

Treatment options include

  1. Creams such as hydroquinone and retin A.  Hydroquinone is a bleaching agent while Retin A increases cellular turnover.  Over-the-counter creams will generally not have high enough concentrations to be effective.
  2. Forever Young BBL – Cutting edge technology providing the most powerful and effective IPL option.

The Forever Young BBL uses Broad Band Light to alter skin melanin and rejuvenate cellular DNA.  Instead of spending time and money on ineffective skin care products many of our patients have turned to the Forever Young BBL to make their skin more vibrant and youthful; reducing brown and red pigmentation problems, promoting collagen, and rejuvenating cellular DNA. It is the most popular laser treatment in our clinic.

What to expect from the Forever Young BBL:

  • Treatments take 20-30 minutes
  • Up to 80% improvement after a single treatment.
  • Most patients will benefit from adding a Micro Laser Peel and a Profractional Laser Peel ( Triple Laser Package )
  • Fine facial lines and wrinkles are a result of UV sun damage, the breakdown of collagen, and a decrease in skin hydration. The Micro Laser Peel and the Profractional Laser are ablative lasers designed to reverse these changes.

    • The Micro Laser Peel precisely ablates the surface skin in order to remove UV damaged skin
    • The Profractional Laser ablates deep columns of skin that can reach to the deep dermis. This allows for skin contraction but it also encourages new cell grown and organizes new collagen

Results depend on the depth of treatment. Recovery from a maintenance treatment can be as little as a day; but recovery from aggressive treatments can be as much as 7 days. Many patients will benefit from the addition of the Forever Young BBL ( Triple Laser Package ).
