Many patients come into our office wanting mini-facelift procedures, but they’re not sure if they’re ideal candidates. Other people do not even know what it takes to be the right candidate for this procedure. This article will help us answer who’s the perfect mini-facelift candidate!

What Is a Mini-Facelift Procedure?

The mini-facelift procedure, also known as a subperiosteal lift or sub-SMAS facelift, is an outpatient surgery that is done under general anesthesia. It takes about two hours to complete the surgery, and most patients can go home within one hour of being discharged from the hospital. After this procedure, a patient’s recovery time is usually only two weeks with no activity restrictions whatsoever.

People undergo a mini-facelift procedure to reduce or eliminate deep folds and furrows, such as the nasolabial folds (the lines that extend from the side of your nose to the corner of your mouth). A facelift’s effects typically last ten years.

Who Is the Ideal Candidate for a Mini-Facelift Procedure?

Patients who are good candidates to receive a mini-facelift procedure have mild to moderate levels of skin laxity that have begun showing on the face as horizontal lines and furrows. The procedure is designed for someone who desires a more uplifted and youthful look but does not want extensive surgery.

Everyone can be a candidate for the mini-facelift procedure! However, several factors determine if someone should go through with this procedure. If you’re considering getting this procedure done, here are some of the characteristics or requirements that your surgeon will assess during the initial consultation visit:

  • Is the patient a good candidate for anesthesia?

  • Does the patient have realistic expectations about the results of the surgery?

  • Are there other body areas that should be addressed during this procedure?

The surgeon’s assessment will help determine if you’re an ideal candidate and give you peace of mind knowing that your aesthetic goals can be met.

What Exactly Does a Plastic Surgeon Assess during the Consultation?

During the consultation, our board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Phillip Chang assesses your medical history to ensure you do not suffer from certain conditions like high blood pressure or diabetes. Unfortunately, this procedure is not ideal for you if you currently smoke because smoking can slow down healing time.

We next assess your aesthetic goals. If you are unhappy with your facial look, then this surgery is something to consider. However, keep in mind that ideal candidates do not have unrealistic expectations. A mini-facelift will give you a mild improvement and inflated self-esteem, but this procedure cannot give you the look of a 20-year old!

The third step of our initial consultation process is assessing your skin type and tone. We assess how loose the skin on your face is and determine what technology can be used to correct wrinkles without harming other parts of the body. The surgeon also needs to know whether parts of the face need more attention, such as the neck.

An IN OFFICE Mini Facelift has a number of benefits: less overall cost, shorter recovery time, shorter procedure time and less complications.

When Is a Consultation with a Plastic Surgeon Necessary?

Even though this procedure is very popular, it does not necessarily mean that it will be the best option for you. That’s why our surgical team performs a thorough consultation with every patient, during which we assess your desire for surgery and determine if you are an ideal candidate.

Anyone thinking about having a mini-facelift needs to meet with us at Aesthetica Cosmetic Surgery and Laser Center for a consultation first before moving forward with surgery. Dr. Chang will determine if you are a good candidate for this procedure and go over the risks involved. If everything matches up, our team will help you navigate through the entire process from beginning to end!
