The Magic of Dermal Fillers: Understanding The Uses and Benefits

Summer is the best time to enjoy the bright sunshine and natural beauty of this world, but it is also when the sun forces us to squint and when the sun can cause the aging process of our skin to speed up. Yet we should be able to enjoy the outside world without fear of lines and wrinkles. Fortunately, dermal fillers provide a solution to aging caused by squinting and the sun and to all types of facial aging.

If you’re hoping to eradicate wrinkles and lines across your face, you’ve come to the right place. Through the use of either or both FDA-approved dermal filler brands, Juvederm and Restylane, you can beat the sun to the game of aging with an anti-aging solution.

What are Dermal Fillers?

So what are these dermal fillers? How can they help you victoriously combat aging? Dermal fillers like those provided by Juvederm and Restylane are injections of hyaluronic acid (HA) that are placed under the skin. They will erase wrinkles and plump your face through a quick, nonsurgical procedure.

These fillers are made with hyaluronic acid, a substance that is already naturally occurring in your own body. A key ingredient in keeping your skin hydrated and healthy, hyaluronic acid is also a substance that can easily fight aging. Because of its involvement in collagen and elastin production, hyaluronic acid combats skin aging by revitalizing the body’s supply of these essential substances.

So, because dermal fillers are replete with hyaluronic acid, they can plump and smooth your skin, helping you achieve your dream aesthetic. In a procedure that takes under an hour, people 22 years or older can conquer their facial wrinkles.

Unpacking the Benefits of Fillers

These face-plumping fillers can erase wrinkles and lines but they also have many other benefits. Because aging reduces collagen production in your body, your face might be experiencing other signs of aging, like sunken cheeks or thin lips. Never fear, however. Dermal fillers are here to save the day! These versatile tools can do many things, including:

  • Add volume to sunken cheeks or drooping skin
  • Correct asymmetrical irregularities to provide a symmetrical face
  • Plump lips and cheeks
  • Erase wrinkles and creases for smoother skin
  • Correct a shadow or wrinkles under the eyes
  • Fill in recessed scars, including acne scars

Dermal fillers can save the day when it comes to signs of aging or small damages to the skin. However, there are other hidden benefits that many people do not realize. For one thing, dermal fillers are a quicker, easier, and more comfortable option for defeating aging than surgery. With an appointment that is an hour or less, you can revitalize your skin and return it to its youthful glow.

Dermal fillers are also less expensive than the involved surgical procedures which aim to correct facial aging. This is not the only hidden benefit, however. You might be surprised to learn that these fillers are versatile not just in where they can correct aging, but also in their results. This means that they can

  • Boost long-term collagen and elastin production in your body. Hyaluronic acid, a key ingredient in dermal fillers, naturally encourages your body to make more of these essential compounds. This means that your skin will not just receive the hyaluronic acid it’s been craving—it will also be replete with naturally produced collagen and elastin.
  • Provide nearly immediate results. Unlike surgery, which can take weeks or even months to make a visible difference, dermal fillers make a difference in two weeks or less.
  • Have natural-looking results. As opposed to simply filling in your face where there are wrinkles, dermal fillers work to make your face look naturally young and plump. Working with more than the immediate wrinkles means that your face will look seamlessly, not artificially, revitalized.
  • Be used in conjunction with other treatments. These include other brands of fillers and Botox. You can even combine your dermal filler treatment with a color and texture improvement appointment like Clear and Brilliant or photo rejuvenation light.

With so many benefits to these versatile fillers, you can be sure that they offer improvements in many areas, from the forehead to the cheeks to the lips. But now that you know what dermal fillers are and how many things they can do, you might be wondering where to start. Keep reading, and we’ll fill you in!

What are the Different Types of Dermal Filler Brands?

There are several different brands of dermal fillers, but the brands which use hyaluronic acid are what we’ll be talking about today. As you age, you make less hyaluronic acid, a key compound in your body for skin volume and hydration. So, fillers that use hyaluronic acid aim to revitalize your skin through this compound. Two brands that use hyaluronic acid are Juvederm and Restylane.

Uses and Benefits of Juvederm Fillers

Juvederm dermal fillers are replete with hyaluronic acid, making them an excellent option for increasing your skin’s volume and moisturization. Juvederm can be used across the face in places like the lips, cheeks, jawline, forehead, and other facial areas with wrinkles and lines. It is a non-surgical dermal filler with good longevity and natural-looking results. Juvederm also aims to soften your skin for a more youthful glow.

Uses and Benefits of Restylane Fillers

Restylane is also a dermal filler brand that uses hyaluronic acid to refresh your skin and return it to its youth. Restylane offers the most diverse range of hyaluronic acid fillers, including treatments for the forehead, jawline, lips, facial wrinkles, and even the hands. In addition, Restylane claims the use of XpresHAn technology to help gently highlight each aspect of your face.

Dermal Fillers for Specific Areas

Both Juvederm and Restylane offer a wide range of dermal fillers made to target specific areas. For example, both companies offer fillers for the cheeks. These fillers add volume and reduce sunken cheeks from aging. There are specific filler lines to treat some of these different areas, and we’ll be looking at a few of those now.

Benefits of Lip Fillers: The Perfect Pout

One of these specialized filler types is for the lips. If you feel that your lips have lost volume or flattened with age, Juvederm and Restylane have the perfect solution for you. Both of their fillers aim to add back lost volume to the lip area.

For Juvederm, this comes in the form of their Juvederm Ultra XC filler that specializes in volumizing the lips. In addition to this, Juvederm offers Juvederm Volbella XC, a dermal filler made to erase fine lines and wrinkles around the lips and mouth, also called perioral lines.

With Restylane, you can also correct aging in and around your lips. Their Restylane Kysse and Restylane Silk dermal fillers offer the perfect solution to adding definition to your lips and erasing those pesky wrinkles around your mouth. With either of these brands, you can find the perfect fit for you to conquer deflated lips and perioral wrinkles.

Dermal Fillers for Forehead: Smoothing Out Lines

If you’re looking to overcome lines on your forehead, dermal fillers can provide the answer for that, too. Juvederm and Restylane’s hyaluronic acid fillers offer the best solution because they are moldable for the highly mobile forehead region. Because innovations in forehead fillers are still being developed, it is best to ask your plastic surgeon for specific recommendations for which Juvederm or Restylane filler is best for this procedure.

Dermal Fillers for Marionette Lines: Turning Frowns Upside Down

Another popular area in which dermal fillers have been very helpful is marionette lines, those annoying creases that can come from years of smiling. Restylane offers fillers for moderate to severe smile lines. These fillers, including Restylane Defyne, Restylane Lyft, Restylane Refyne, and Restylane, can erase parentheses lines and other wrinkles from smiling.

Juvederm also offers treatment for moderate to severe smile lines. Two of their fillers, Juvederm Ultra Plus XC and Juvederm Vollure XC, are especially excellent for this type of procedure. These fillers can correct wrinkles and lines caused by smiles through a quick and painless injection.

Which Dermal Fillers Last the Longest?

With similar offers in their range of products, you may be wondering how to distinguish the two hyaluronic filler brands. One of the best ways to do this is to look at their longevity. Of course, each individual filler has a slightly different estimated time during which is effective, but overall the brands do have an individual lifetime.

Juvederm products are estimated to last one to two years with optimal treatment. However, individual fillers still have different lifetimes. Lip fillers, for example, are estimated to last up to one year, while jaw fillers may last up to two.

Restylane products are similar. They typically add volume to your face for a whole year, as their lip filler line illustrates. Either brand you choose, the longevity is somewhat dependent on where it is placed and how you take care of your results.

Ensuring the Longevity of Dermal Fillers With Proper Aftercare

So how do you take care of your skin and the dermal filler to ensure it has the longest possible lifetime? There are several things you can do directly after receiving your injection to accomplish this.

For Juvederm, it’s important to baby your skin for the first 24 hours. This means it’s good to avoid makeup and sun exposure or exposure to very hot temperatures. In addition, you’ll want to keep the fillers in place, so resting from exercise for the first 24 hours after the injection will give the fillers time to settle in without being disrupted. Juvederm also recommends that you avoid alcohol for the first day after your injection, as it can cause redness or itching near the injection site. Finally, to avoid any excess bleeding, you should stay away from medications that tend to thin your blood, like aspirin, ibuprofen, or other medicines with the same effect.

Restylane recommends similar aftercare. If you experience any swelling, applying a cold compress may help. However, it is still important to moderate your temperature exposure, as extreme heat or cold may poorly affect the fillers. The same applies to sun exposure or UV exposure for the first 24 hours. With Restylane, it’s also important to avoid difficult exercise for the first day and watch your supplements, eliminating ibuprofen or similar products and high doses of vitamin E.

Following these simple instructions makes it easy to enjoy your results for as long as possible. Of course, you can always receive a touchup treatment to continue your youthful glow even after your first treatment has worn off. With Juvederm and Restylane, you’ll never have to worry about aging again. Instead, you can reverse your appearance back to the days of youth and free spirits.
