CoolSculpting is a simple, non-surgical treatment to reduce the appearance of stubborn localized fat. A vacuum and chilled applicator are placed over the fat that needs to be reduced. The vacuum sucks fat into the applicator where it is subjected to freezing temperatures. The cold causes exclusively the fat cells – which are more sensitive to the cold than the surrounding cells – to die while leaving the surrounding tissue in place.

Coolsculpting was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in September of 2010, after having been approved for use in Europe the year before. The FDA approved it for the removal of localized fat pockets in areas such as the abdomen, thighs, flanks, and back. In 2018, it was also approved for neck fat.

CoolSculpting’s purpose is to target unwanted fat areas that are resistant to fitness and dieting. Frequent areas that women want addressed include:

You will be exposed to very cold temperatures with the controlled cooling process, along with some pulling or tugging. That sensation usually subsides after about ten minutes once the cells are numbed. After the procedure, you might experience some tingling, stinging, swelling, numbness, or bruising – but all of those side-effects are temporary and will fade. Generally, there is a 20-25% reduction of fat in the targeted areas with positive visual results.
