What is Breast Augmentation?
During breast augmentation, implants are commonly added to the breast to increase volume and firmness. There are two commonly used implants: silicone or “gummy bear” implants and saline implants. Silicone implants are more flexible and give the breast a more natural look and feel, while saline implants are firmer.

Why You Want Vectra 3D Imaging Before Breast Augmentation
Vectra 3D imaging is an amazing option that many plastic surgeons are offering their clients prior to surgery. 3D imaging is such a life-changing opportunity because it allows clients to truly envision their cosmetic surgery results. A scan is taken of the client, and it then “receives surgery” to allow the client to see what the outcome of their breast augmentation will be. This allows crystal clear communication between the client and the doctor, and any alterations can be made on the computer-generated image, which is far easier to tweak than an actual person! What to Expect During Breast Augmentation Surgery
Once you are prepped and ready for surgery, you will come into your doctor’s offices for surgery day. To start off the surgery, the breast will be injected with a numbing pain medication that will last the duration of the surgery. Next, an injection for decreasing bruising will be placed. After the medication has been given time to take affect, an approximately 3cm incision will be made, generally in the under-the breast crease. A pocket for the implant is created beneath the chest muscle, using what is called the dual plane technique. A Keller funnel places the implant in the breast. This is another key moment, as the Keller funnel allows for the least potential scarring and complications. Once the implant is placed, the client will be raised to the seated position to ensure proper placement of the implant. Finally, the incisions will be closed with either sutures or surgical tape.
How Long Does a Breast Augmentation Take?
After the surgery is completed, the client is taken to a recovery room to rest and recover while being monitored before being sent home to recover completely. The entire surgery generally takes about 1-1.5 hours.
What a Typical Recovery From Breast Augmentation Looks Like
Your doctor will likely prescribe painkillers to be taken for the first 3-5 days post-operation, as this is when you will be experiencing the highest level of pain during recovery. Within the first week, most clients report being able to switch to over-the-counter pain management. There will be some swelling and drainage happening within the first few days, but this should decrease daily.
When Will I See My Breast Augmentation Results?
Most clients are able to return to work and light exercises after one week of recovery time. After about 3 weeks, most levels of activity are okay to resume, and for the most part you will feel back to normal.
Expect to have residual swelling for up to 3 months after your breast augmentation surgery, and for the final results to not be fully realized until 6 months afterwards.
