Should I Get A Breast Reduction?4 min read

While big boobs may be glamorized in comic books and cartoons, media portrayals often leave out the pain, discomfort, and problems large breasts can come with. But we’re sure when Jessica Rabbit said, “You don’t know how hard it is being a woman looking the way I do,” she was talking about the back pain, achiness, struggles exercising, and shoulder soreness that can accompany being chesty. Within the past years, breast reduction surgery has grown increasingly popular with chesty women to decrease chest size, soreness, pain, and discomfort while increasing mobility, comfort, and confidence. A breast reduction typically decreases breasts 1-2 cup sizes.

Are you wondering whether breast reduction surgery is the right option for you? Read below to explore whether you should consider getting a breast reduction!

Do You Experience Consistent Chest Soreness?

If your chest is often sore, it might be time to take a literal weight off your chest. Large breasts can cause constant or consistent pain that interferes with daily life and simple pleasures. C cup breasts weigh around 1.1 lbs (the equivalent of 3 bananas each breast), D cup breasts weigh around 1.7 lbs (the equivalent of a guinea pig per breast), DD-E cups weigh around 2.2 lbs each (about a pineapple each breast), and DDD-F weigh about 2.6 lbs each (about a quart of water each breast). That’s a lot of weight that can easily weigh down your skin, muscle, shoulders, and back. A breast reduction might be exactly what you need for a more comfortable life!

Can You Exercise Comfortably?

Sometimes even the tightest sports bras just don’t cut it — exercising and dancing with big breasts can be a bouncy, painful, squished ordeal. Not only is exercise important for a generally healthy lifestyle, but for many people it can be a fun passion. A breast reduction can make exercise and dancing easier, more enjoyable, and not as burdensome (literally!) If your breasts interfere being active and having fun, a breast reduction might be totally what you’re looking for.

Any Rashes, Chafing, & Sweat?

That’s right — consistent rashes, chafing, and undercrease breast sweat doesn’t have to be normal anymore! If you have large breasts, your boobs may be the culprit of these uncomfortable, painful, and annoying problems. Since breasts are heavy, the extra weight in bras causes strap rashes, underwire chafing, and skin rubbing/sweating. A breast reduction can fix these problems and make life a little bit easier!

Are You Frustrated Finding Clothes?

If you’re sick and tired of not being able to fit into the clothes you want because of your breast size, a breast reduction can be the solution! No more having to settle for oddly-fitting clothing, internally crying over tops/dresses that are too small around the chest, or having to shop only online for bras. Since a breast reduction can remove 1-2 cup sizes, you’ll be able to experience more flexibility in your wardrobe and more enjoyment shopping.

Do You Struggle with Confidence?

Sometimes, we just aren’t comfortable in our own skin. And that’s okay! If you just aren’t comfortable with your breast size, a breast reduction may be exactly what you need to boost your confidence and make you feel like a million bucks. After all, your body is your home — so if you’ve been wanting smaller breasts for a while, then a breast reduction will help give you the body you want so you can be happier with yourself.

Things to Keep in Mind

As you consider a breast reduction, here are a few things to keep in mind!

  • A breast reduction can make breastfeeding harder. If you plan on having kids, make SURE you mention this to your doctor. Your surgeon will discuss surgery options and recovery strategies to help you achieve your look without sacrificing future endeavors.
  • Scars won’t completely go away. While scar healing depends entirely on proper recovery care, it is important to know that the scars will always slightly be there. They usually look like a lollipop shape around the nipple and down under the crease. Nonetheless, patients say that life’s newfound breast ease, confidence, and flexibility after a breast reduction is entirely worth it!

NOTE: We don’t take insurance or work with insurance companies. Patients pay for the surgery upfront and we provide them with a superbill, and other documents they may need to apply for reimbursement.
