When you think of the phrase cosmetic surgery, you probably think of things like Botox injections to smooth facial wrinkles. While these sorts of treatments are popular, and for good reason, there is a great range of other cosmetic procedures that can reduce signs of aging all over the body. One of these is microneedling, which stimulates collagen production to reduce decolletage wrinkles. Read on to find out whether this option is right for you!

What are Decolletage Wrinkles, and Why Do They Happen?

The types of wrinkles we’re concerned with here, on the upper chest area, have also been referred to as sleep creases and cleavage rhytides. These appear on the upper chest area, between the neck and upper abdomen, partially as a result of aging but also as a result of the natural motion of the body. The reason they’re sometimes called “sleep creases” is that skin naturally wrinkles when one is sleeping, for example, on their side.

At the beginning of life, these wrinkles smooth out when we stand up and move around, but aging causes the skin to lose its ability to resolve the wrinkles naturally. Another factor, in addition to aging, is genetics. Your family history plays at least some role in your body’s production rate for the relevant compounds like collagen and elastin. The less you have and the faster they break down, the faster permanent decolletage wrinkles will form. Sun exposure and tobacco smoking can also accelerate this process.

The final decolletage wrinkle-producing factor that we should take into account is changes in weight. Significant weight loss, for example, can result in “extra” skin that can lead to wrinkles. When it comes to decolletage wrinkles, this is one reason that women are affected more frequently than men: periods of pregnancy or breastfeeding, which naturally increase the weight and volume of the breasts, also naturally lead to decolletage wrinkles.

Can Breast Implants Lead to Decolletage Wrinkles?

Unfortunately, yes. Because breast implants are designed to imitate the texture and appearance of breast tissue, they can, in some cases, lead to similar decolletage wrinkles. The positive side of this phenomenon, of course, is that it is an indication that breast implants are successful in imitating natural tissue. The downside is that decolletage wrinkling can result. This can happen for several different reasons.

The reasons for breast implants leading to decolletage wrinkles vary. One possibility is that the individual has relatively thin breast tissue. It’s also possible that the capsule, designed to hold the implant in place, may be too small. Overfilling or underfilling of saline implants, for breast implants of this design, can also lead to wrinkling. No matter the circumstance that has led to decolletage wrinkles – whether from breast implants, weight loss, or aging – there are options for treatment!

Introducing Microneedling Treatment: The Solution to Chest Wrinkles

Of the various treatments for decolletage wrinkles, the standout is known as microneedling. Making use of a roller with very fine needles to prick the skin, the procedure serves to stimulate the production of collagen. Collagen is useful because it can aid in healing scars and reducing signs of aging. The process also applies plasma-rich platelets (PRPs), which help skin tissue’s self-reparation process. This is because the plasma-rich platelets contain proteins like growth factors and cytokines, giving the skin even more material with which to repair itself.

In case you could use a refresher, collagen is a foundational building block of the body itself. Making up about 30% of your body’s protein, it supports your skin, muscles, bones, and connective tissue. While a balanced diet is sufficient to provide collagen, it does not make us immune from the effects of aging on our skin. To be more specific, collagen helps skin by assisting in the formation of fibroplasts, which help new cells grow from the middle layer of your skin. The result of sufficient collagen is structure, strength, and elasticity.

Where does microneedling come in? The pricking of the skin with small, sterilized needles is a technique proven to prompt collagen production. Used on the chest, microneedling will bring about smoother and firmer skin, as the extra collagen in that area takes effect. Another term for the procedure is collagen induction therapy, and man

The Best Chest Wrinkle Treatment: Microneedling vs. Other Options

While it’s certainly true that microneedling can be an effective solution for chest wrinkles, it’s also true that other treatment options have been developed. How can you tell which one is right for you? The first thing to establish is that microneedling is a non-surgical, minimally-invasive procedure. If you have moderate to severe psoriasis or eczema, or if you are using some specific acne medications, then the procedure might not be safe for you. However, if you are not in those circumstances, then microneedling treatment is completely safe. The most intense side effects that patients typically experience are minor redness and irritation for a few days after the procedure.

What microneedling does not require is downtime. You won’t have to take any time off of work or exercise after undergoing a microneedling procedure, making it a very time-effective solution for those looking to treat chest wrinkles. The average microneedling session typically lasts around half an hour, and while multiple treatments are sometimes reuired for the best results, many still find it to be a cost-effective option. A few alternative ways to treat decolletage wrinkles include laser therapy, chemical peels, filler injections, micropeels. Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing is also sometimes employed. While these treatments may also be effective, you should expect greater expense and longer downtime compared to microneedling with PRP.
