Goodbye, forehead wrinkles! Botox removes forehead wrinkles — also known as glabellar lines, 11s, horizontal creases, or vertical creases — by relaxing the forehead muscles and softening features. If you’re looking to address your own forehead wrinkles, creases, and fine lines with Botox, read below for our answers to the most common FAQs about forehead Botox procedures!

Should I Get Botox in My Forehead?

Good news for all those hoping to address forehead creases — Botox works on forehead wrinkles! Botox can address various different types of forehead wrinkles such as:

  • Glabellar lines/11s: These vertical creases develop between and above the eyebrows, usually as a result of frowning, concentrating, and reading hard for years.
  • Horizontal lines: As the name implies, these creases develop horizontally on the forehead from raising eyebrows. Sometimes, these lines are a result of genetics.
  • Frontalis lines: Similar to horizontal lines, these creases appear across the forehead due to eyebrow motions. These lines are deeper, and more common in men.

FAQs About Forehead Lines & Botox

Where to put Botox in the forehead as well as how many injections of Botox is needed depends on the wrinkles/creases being addressed, the age of the patient, their sex, and their goals. Often, the average number of Botox units needed for forehead creases is determined by the direction. Vertical creases generally use 13-33 units of Botox. Horizontal creases generally need 10-20 units. Allergan generally suggests 4 units for each of the 5 forehead sites, totaling 20 units for the whole forehead.

The FDA has approved Botox as safe to treat forehead lines. As long as the Botox is being administered properly, Botox rarely has side effects and complications. An experienced practitioner will be able to achieve your desired outcome with a natural and youthful effect in a totally safe manner.

The best course of action to treat forehead veins is not Botox — rather, it is laser treatments. Click here to read about laser vein removal.

Botox injections feel the same as any other injection, so the pain is very minimal. The beautician can apply a numbing cloth before the injection if the patient would like. After the injection, the injection site will be covered with a cold compress to reduce redness and swelling.

Botox is priced per unit. Usually, each unit costs from $10-$20. For forehead wrinkles, 20 units is generally the average (refer to FAQ #1) this would equate around $200-$400. Of course, cost depends on various factors, so this is only a general range.

Forehead Botox generally lasts 3-6 months before the results start fading, meaning how often you return for more Botox will be within this range. Your practitioner will likely suggest that you return every few months to replenish the Botox and maintain the results.

What to do after Botox in the forehead depends on what the beautician determines is best for your goals. However, the general rule is that moving your forehead and making expressions right after Botox is perfectly fine! This helps the Botox reach all the cells within the area that it needs too. Of course, don’t do anything over-the-top, and resume regular expressions and activity.
