About Nonsurgical Rhinoplasty
Reshaping the nose does not always require surgery. This is particularly true in patients who need only subtle changes to add height, projection, to straighten a curvature, or fill in an imperfection. These adjustments can often be addressed by nonsurgical rhinoplasty, which sculpts the nose with the strategic use of injectable fillers (Radiesse, Juvéderm, and/or Voluma). Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Phillip Chang pioneered this method over 15 years ago and has used it on thousands of patients to create a balanced and proportionate profile. Nonsurgical rhinoplasty can be a rewarding and life-enhancing procedure. Common Cosmetic Complaints
A nasal hump is one of the most common complaints of patients coming in for a nose job evaluation. People usually prefer a straight or a slightly scooped nasal top. The nasal hump is more of a western or middle eastern feature. It is made up of bone and cartilage. Small humps can be addressed with a filler above and below the hump to make it appear straight. If the hump is too large, surgery may be required.
Shallow Nasal Height
A flat nose is often a feature of Asians or patients of color. Their nasal bones are shallow and their nasal tips tend to be broad or bulbous. Injectable fillers, including Juvederm, Voluma, or Radiesse, can be injected directly into the nasal bone to provide the nose with more height. A filler can also be delicately placed over the nasal tip cartilage to give the tip more definition and to create a less bulbous appearance. A more long-lasting solution would call for a nasal implant or cartilage graft. Either of these materials can be used to place over the nasal bones to give it more height.
Bulbous Nasal Tip
A bulbous nasal tip is caused by wide and separated nasal tip cartilage. A filler can be added centrally to add projection to the tip. There is an optical illusion that the nasal tip is not only more projected, but it appears more narrow.
Cartilage Warping and Irregularities
The nasal tip is made up of cartilage that is often seen through the skin. The cartilage can be twisted, bent, or appear sharp. Nonsurgical rhinoplasty is the ideal solution to these cosmetic issues as a filler can be precisely placed to camouflage these imperfections.
"It's been over a year and a half since I've been going to Dr. Chang's office, I drive an hour just to get here (although I know some drive three hours or more to see him!). I did a lot of research to find a board certified plastic surgeon in the area with a solid and reputable background.Throughout my visits, he's been incredibly kind and taken the time to listen to my never ending list of questions. There are a lot of doctors that push services that you don't need just for money but he'll be transparent to tell you exactly what he feels you'll need in order to gain improvement and will work with you to see what could be the best outcome. You can also text or email him directly after any invasive procedures if you have any questions/concerns instead of waiting for a follow up. I also don't want to forget the rest of the staff - everyone from the receptionists and nurses have been very gracious, patient and accommodating to my needs but I also want to mention Melanie whose an RN at Dr. Chang's office. She has superb bed side skills and truly makes you feel at ease when you're speaking with her. I've probably annoyed her with a million questions and emails but she's still been stellar. I highly recommend her for any non-surgical procedures. They have a few videos on their website and youtube as well so you have an idea of who they are and the procedures they perform if you want to get a better idea yourself but I definitely recommend them, they're awesome."- M. / Google / Jul 24, 2018

You are a good candidate for a nonsurgical rhinoplasty if you want to reshape your nose without surgery or want to:
- Increase the height of the nose
- Reduce the appearance of a nasal hump
- Sculpt a crooked nose to appear straight
- Increase the projection of the nasal tip
- Make the tip of the nose appear narrow
- Eliminate minor depressions and irregularities
Nonsurgical rhinoplasty is ideal for patients with flat nasal bones, small nasal humps, small depressions, and wide nasal tips. In many cases, this procedure allows patients with minor issues to avoid the time, risk, and expense of surgery. Prior to the procedure, patients can visualize their anticipated results in a Vectra 3D simulator. During this time, the nose is assessed for height, projection, curvature, and irregularities. Dr. Chang offers Radiesse, Juvéderm, and Voluma fillers for nonsurgical rhinoplasty. Juvéderm and Voluma are the two most commonly used products. They are both soft gels that can last 1 – 2 years. The injection sites are then marked and the designated product is injected into the nose. This process usually takes about ten minutes, then a cold compress is applied to ease minor swelling.
What to Expect
Once the procedure is complete, you can expect minor redness, tenderness, or swelling. These symptoms are temporary and usually dissipate within 1 – 2 days. Nonsurgical rhinoplasty is considered an outpatient procedure, which means patients are free to return to their daily activities immediately after treatment. Although fillers can create a balanced look that enhances your natural beauty, routine treatments are required to maintain results. Patients typically visit Dr. Chang once a year for touch-ups but this varies for everyone.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a nonsurgical nose job cost?
The cost of a nonsurgical rhinoplasty will vary from person to person as each case is different. Some patients require more fillers than others depending on their specific cosmetic goals. During your initial consultation, our cosmetic team will be able to discuss the exact cost of your unique treatment plan in detail.
What filler is most commonly used for a nonsurgical nose job?
The most common fillers Dr. Chang uses for nonsurgical nose jobs are Juvederm or Voluma. These are both hyaluronic acid gels that are soft and tissue like. Both are FDA approved for nonsurgical rhinoplasty and are extremely safe. These gels can even be dissolved if you are not satisfied with the procedure. Dr. Chang is a diamond provider for Allergan, the company that makes BOTOX, Juvederm, and Voluma. This means that he has the highest level of expertise.
What is the Vectra 3D camera?
Dr. Chang is the only plastic surgeon to have a Vectra 3D camera in Loudoun, Virginia. This camera is equipped with morphing software that can manipulate the image of your nose so you can see how you would look after certain manipulations. For example, you can see how you would look if we shaved off the bony hump in surgery, or if we simply added filler above and below the hump with a nonsurgical rhinoplasty.
How long does a nonsurgical nose job last?
The longevity of your results will be dependent on the type of fillers used and your unique biology. With Juvéderm and Voluma, results can last up to two years. However, this is not always the case for every patient. Some patients may need touch-ups at month nine or ten.
When are results visible?
Although results can be seen almost immediately, optimal results will occur after 2 – 4 weeks. After the procedure, there is some minor swelling and redness that may take a few days to disappear. These symptoms can be eased with a cold compress and over-the-counter medication.
