What to Know About Your Botox Consultation and Treatment

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

How your consultation will proceed will depend largely on your experience with botox.  In general, we first want to know what bothers you.  Secondly, with your permission, we will review based on your needs, what non-surgical options then surgical options you might benefit from to combat facial aging.

WHAT CONDITIONS CAN BE TREATED WITH BOTOX

Botox and cosmetic facial fillers are the most commonly used cosmetic tools used for facial aging.  Treatment areas are summarized on previous pages, but in brief, botox can do the following.

  • Reduce the horizontal lines of the forehead
  • Reduce the vertical angry lines in the glabella between the brows
  • Reduce the crows feet or smile lines
  • Reduce the appearance of bunny
  • Lift the brows
  • Lift the corners of the mouth
  • Reduce the pain and dysfunction of TMJ
  • Reduce the pain of migraine headaches

YOUR COSMETIC NURSES

Your consultation will be with one of our cosmetic registered nurses who have all been with Dr. Chang for over 5 years each and have been personally trained by Dr. Chang

THE TREATMENT ROOM

We make every effort to make your treatment as comfortable as possible.  Dr. Chang and Aesthetica have tried to make the area as comfortable as possible.

BEFORE AND AFTER PICTURES and PREPARATION

When you arrive for your treatment, some patients particularly if you hare adding facial fillers or the broad band light BBL / IPL for skin rejuvenation to your procedure in order for us to compare your progress after your treatment and into the future.

These images are part of the medical record and will never be shared without your explicit permission.

THE BOTOX INJECTION

Botox is an injection product that that requires the injection of the liquid medicine directly into the muscle.

The area is first cleansed with alcohol.  The 30 gauge needle is the thinnest needle made; purchased specially for your comfort.  Most patient feel only a small pinch that is very bearable.

THE BOTOX TREATMENT WILL TAKE LESS THAN 10 MINUTES

If you are not having any other procedures, your botox treatment should take no more than 5-10 minutes.  Adding facial fillers might add another 10 minutes.  Adding a broad band light BBL photofacial will add another 15 minutes.

Botox takes 3-5 days to begin to work.  So don’t expect any changes in that time.  It will then take another 5-7 days to reach maximum effect. If you have any concerns about the results, we impress upon you that we will not make any adjustments before 2 weeks as it is difficult to know if the botox has worked yet to its full effect.

Botox has no down-time.  you will leave the office with negligible swelling.  Bruising is possible not not common.  We are using a needle that can inadvertently injury microscopic blood vessels after all.

While some patients will see results after only a month, most patients will need about 2-3 months. We will set up a follow-up appointment for 12 weeks later. We will ALWAYS be happy to see or talk to you prior to our standard appointment schedule.

At your follow-up, we will take your after-photos and weigh you. These are taken to show you your amazing transformation. 80% of patients are so thrilled, they will go on to have a DIFFERENT area treated.

On average, botox will last between 3 and 4 months.  This is only an average.  Anecdotally, we will hear from patients that claim that their botox has lasted for 6 months.  You should understand that this would be unusual.

Botox given regularly will weaken the muscle that it is treating.  This is a good thing.  It will make the lines decrease for longer.
